Many of you probably share files on the internet, such as music and films, that are subject to copyright laws. Copyright gives the creator of a piece the right to say how it is distributed, broadcasted, copied and modified. So, sharing files over the internet that are protected by copyright is technically theft as the work has not been paid for.
A woman has been fined $200,000 US dollars for shraing files:

Hi im rory from 8:0 I think that yes it is reallybad that people will do these things because yes it is just like stealing from a shop or mugging somebody and i think the police should try to catch everyone that does it even though its hard to catch them. There are things like limewire that houl be banned because of all the illegal activity that happens on them
I do think it is theft because you are robbing music from people it is just like stealing a cd. You probably wouldnt do it but u do it on the pc because you probably wont get caught and it is quite easy to do. i think the company should stop it i dont now how but they should.

Hi Mr. Little its Penny. I think file sharing should be classed as theft because you shouldn't be allowed unless they have asked permission off the creator of the web page. I think people should be persecuted for sharing copy written files because it is just another form of theft and is just as bad as stealing. Maybe people copyright things because they don’t know that it is a crime or they don’t understand it.
Hannah Dent here from 8.0! Mr Little asked us to publish our views on Music Piracy, so here's mine! I think it's bad that people should choose to open their own files, and let complete strangers look at the files from your OWN computer! I, personally, wouldn't do it, but some people do! I think the reason people do it is so they can claim the glory, and even look cool. Also, people do it probably without even knowing it’s as bad as it is! I'd like to add that people might not realize that it is illegal to commercialise their own files, and do it for possibly something to do. Also, computers should be in a place accessible to the whole household, to prevent things like music piracy from occurring.

i think that you really shouldnt "share music" as it is basicly stealing. also what is the point of making an album if its only going to be passde around and nobody is going to pay for it. like you said, if you wouldnt steal a car or handbag why steal a CD?
hi sir!!! its adina from 8.2a i think that copywriting music from the internet or things such as linewire is just like stealing but worse because you can get any song you want without having to pay for it. I also think that it is bad because if everyone copywrite's songs then the artist's wont get any credit for it. Somepeople might not realise that copywriting is an illegal thing to do. There should be poster put up about the fact that copywriting songs is illegal and things like linewire should be banned.
Hi, Becky from 8-0.I think that it is wrong that people can open your own personal files without asking. People should be prosecuted as it is just like theft. I don't share files with people because I dont feel it's right but some people do. I think they do it because it is a cool image, easy to do or they might not understand that it is like theft. You could stop it by moving the computer so the whole house uses it.

Its virtually like stealing a CD from a shop , its morally wrong and the people who do this will be caught you’ll see!
Hi, its Meg Shaw 8 2a, I think that music piracy is wrong because it is not fair on the song writers and bands who have written the songs coz their songs are being stolen. the record companies should make the songs cheaper to buy like on itunes so that people can afford the cds.

Hi mr little. it is ellie jones from 82a.i think music piracy is wrong because it is not fair on the people who wrote the song.personnally i think people should be prosecuted for sharing files that have copywrite on them.i have never sharedmusic files before but if i did i would fell really guilty because i would basically be steeling, as you have not paid for it. i think people share files because they don't want to buy them with there own money.

i think that it's bad because the music artist is not getting anything from their song because basicly it's stealing. i wouldn't do it because it is just stealing i would feel abit guilty if i did that, i would just rather pay for it in-stead.
